A SIX year-old boy has been hailed a hero for asking a deliveryman for help after his mother collapsed.

Newtownards woman Liz Crooks had been preparing for a day out to celebrate her birthday on Saturday with her son Aiden and five year-old daughter Cassandra when she began to feel unwell.

Liz’s youngest child, two year-old Luna was thankfully being minded that day.

Knowing something didn’t feel right, the 26 year-old, who suffers from Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), sent a message to her mother and called the emergency services before telling her son Aiden she didn’t feel well and collapsing onto the sofa.

When Liz came round, she discovered her quick-witted son had asked an Amazon delivery man to come to her aid and while she had no recollection of what happened while she was out, she discovered the moment was captured on her doorbell camera.

Aiden can be seen in the front garden accepting a parcel from the delivery man on the footage, before asking him ‘can you help my mummy? She’s fainted’. The driver asks Aiden if his mother is unwell and then follows him into the home and makes contact with the emergency services.

Liz uploaded the footage online after the incident, not only praising her son for his actions but hoping to reach other parents with young children and encouraging them to teach them what to do in an emergency.

The footage has since gone viral, reaching over one million likes on Tik Tok.

Speaking about the incident, Liz recalled: “I had been feeling generally unwell and weak and I knew something wasn’t quite right so I tried to perk myself up and got a wash and dressed.”

Liz explained that her health condition affected her mobility and could cause seizures, and so she lay down when she began to feel more unwell.

Hoping to get ahead of her condition before it worsened, Liz contacted her mother Kathy to ask her to come over as soon as possible and called the emergency services, who advised of waiting times.

Liz noted that usually she had great support around her, but due to friends and neighbours being away for holidays she had no one nearby for help.

Due to Liz’s health condition, she has her children well warned on what to do if she should take unwell without another adult about.

“Dear love him, Aiden said he would go to the neighbour’s and that’s when the guy happened to be delivering a parcel which my sister had sent for my birthday,” Liz continued.

Liz praised the delivery man for staying with her two children while she came round and keeping them calm.

“I was quite out of it when I came round and he told me help was on the way and explaining everything so I wasn’t scared and I really appreciated him keeping the kids calm,” she said.

Shortly after Liz was attended to by her mother, neighbour and the emergency services, and the delivery man left to finish his rounds.

On his return to work the next day, he was congratulated by work for his actions, after the video went viral for all to see.

Speaking about the doorbell footage, Liz said it was ‘amazing’ to see her young son spring into action and remain totally calm as he asked for help, noting that she had no idea what had happened while she was out.

“When I was in the ambulance Aiden broke down as I think he realised how ill I had been,” she added.

Since the incident, Liz has been taking it easy as she awaits some test results and has been aided by her partner and mum.

Liz gave a huge thanks to the Amazon delivery man for stepping in on the request of her son, while also paying tribute to the emergency service operators, ambulance crew, neighbours, friends and her mum for helping after the incident.

She also thanked all those who live nearby for reaching out with emergency contact numbers.

Finally, the proud mum praised her son Aiden for his quick-thinking and calm nature in calling for help.
