All-Ireland success for young ’Dee golfers

DONAGHADEE Golf Club’s junior golfers continue to deliver outstanding performances this season.

The club’s GolfSixes team – four boys and two girls, all aged under 13 – claimed an impressive third place at the All-Ireland final, hosted at Grange Golf Club in Dublin. In a thrilling contest, they narrowly missed out on first place by a single shot.

Their success follows a remarkable win at the Ulster Regional final in August, held at Killymoon Golf Club, which secured their place on the national stage.

To mark the achievement, the Ulster Winners’ pennant was presented to club captain Robert Henderson by team member Rachael Boyd, who has been a dedicated member of the GolfSixes squad for the past four years.

GolfSixes is a fast-paced, family-friendly format designed to introduce young golfers to competitive play. Teams of six compete in pairs over six shortened holes, earning points for their side in an exciting and accessible competition.

Congratulating the team, club captain Robert Henderson, said: “We are immensely proud of our junior golfers and their fantastic achievement. Their dedication, teamwork and talent are a credit to themselves and to Donaghadee Golf Club.

“None of their success would have been possible without generous and continued sponsorship from Strand Homes for our Juniors’ Programme, the commitment of our Junior Convenors and the huge team of committed volunteers who turn up twice a week during the summer to help and encourage our young members.”
