A NEWTOWNARDS couple are celebrating their diamond anniversary today.

Thomas and Myra Donaldson were married on October 5, 1963 after meeting through work.

Thomas, who worked in Russell Brothers estate agents, and Myra, who worked in a solicitor’s office, met when she was bringing papers for Thomas’s boss to sign.

The couple were married in 2nd Comber Presbyterian Church by Rev. Jones and Myra said the secret to a happy marriage is ‘helping each other out and being understanding with each other’.

Tom used to coach football for the Scouts and Myra was in the first team North Down Ladies had.

The pair went on to have one daughter, one grandson and four great grandchildren.

Tom and Myra are to celebrate their anniversary this Saturday night surrounded by their family and friends from Canada and across the UK.
