A Newtownards woman has had her dream realised after she was inducted into the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame.

Sharon Malcolm, the owner of Sharon Malcolm Hairdressing in Newtownards, was inducted into the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame just before Christmas. It is one of the highest accolades a UK hairdresser may achieve. Being named in the UK’s most prestigious hairdressing Roll of Honour, saw the Newtownards woman travel to London with her team. There, they attended a starstudded ceremony which was hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan and the Executive Director of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr.

To be inducted into the Roll of Honour, the ambitious hairdresser had to win HJ’s (Hairdresser’s Journal) British Hairdressing Awards three times in the same category. Sharon passed with flying colours after she was named NI Hairdresser of the year, having been awarded the title in 2014 and 2019, her accolade in 2021 secured her place in the Hall of Fame.

The Newtownards woman now ranks with other big names in the industry, including Sam McKnight, Trevor Sorbie and Mark Leeson. The Newtownards hairdresser states that the opportunity was a humbling one, but is also one of her greatest personal achievements. “For many years, my overall goal was to be named within the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame and to finally have reached this point in my career, is an incredible personal achievement and is also very humbling,” she said. “I truly hope that this honour inspires many young hairdressers here in Northern Ireland that if you truly want to reach the highest levels of hairdressing, you can go for it. Set your goals, work hard and it can become reality. “Being included in the Hall of Fame is one of the most memorable nights of my career, and I’m so thankful for the ongoing support of my incredible team, and my clients at Sharon Malcolm Hairdressing who have been with me on the journey,” added Sharon.

In addition to her talents as a hair stylist, Sharon is also an entrepreneur. In early 2022, Sharon launched her first hair product. Cha Cha Clip is 100% real hair and aims to transform a good look into an incredible style with a well-designed bespoke clip that can be matched to anyone’s colour.
