Ards Peninsula running club launches free training offer

BALLYGALGET Athletic Club has announced a special initiative aimed at encouraging new and returning runners to get involved in the sport.

The Portaferry based club is offering free participation in all training sessions for adults (18+) until March 6, 2026, after which a £2 fee will apply.

The programme is designed for those interested in starting running, working towards a 5k or 10k, improving fitness, or seeking a supportive environment to build confidence.

Details of weekly sessions are as follows: Monday – Social Run, 6.45pm (suitable for all abilities); Wednesday – Interval/Tempo Training, 7pm; Friday – Newcomers Social Run, 6.30pm at Ballygalget Track.

The Friday evening session has been tailored specifically for beginners and those preparing for upcoming local events, including the Ballygalget Social 5k and 10k.

The annual Ballygalget 5k/10k Run takes place on Saturday, February 22, starting at 12pm from Ballygalget GAC Social Club. The event is open to all, and the club encourages runners, joggers, walkers and supporters to come along and be part of the day.
