Ards Rugby Golf Day – great success
THE UPS and Stewart Solicitors sponsored annual Ards Rugby Golf Day at Scrabo Golf Club was a great success.
The course was in great condition and for the second year in a row the weather was superb. With a wedding taking place at the golf club, a shuttle bus was provided to take golfers back to Hamilton Park for a post golf meal, live music and the presentation of awards.
The overall winner was Stevie Bell on 41 points; the team winners were Lagan’s All Stars; nearest the pin winner was Chris McClure and longest drive winner was Matthew Gibson. Many thanks to all businesses and individuals who sponsored holes. Special thanks and well done to all those involved in the organising of the day, particularly Chris Allen, Warren Simpson and Stevie Bell.
Men’s Shed @ IRFU High Performance Centre
LAST Tuesday a delegation from Ards Rugby’s Men’s Shed travelled to the IRFU High Performance Centre at Blanchardstown.
Club President Stevie Nutt had received an invite from the IRFU for the Men’s Shed to provide input for their Rugby in Ireland strategy showcasing the diversity and inclusivity of rugby in Ireland.
The Men’s Shedders had a great day out, they received a guided tour of the High Performance Centre, met with Ireland internationals Caelan Doris and Aoife Wafer and met some inspiring individuals from the Old Wesley visually impaired team and the Sunday Wells mixed ability team.
This week the Men’s Shed welcomed guests from Queensland, Australia. Leanne and Gerry Allen and their daughter Caitlyn are in Newtownards visiting family and took the opportunity to call in and see our Men’s Shed in action.
The Men’s Shed meets at Hamilton Park on Monday mornings from 9.30am-12.30pm. It is the perfect opportunity for those of a certain vintage to come together, maintain good mental health through social interaction, have some physical activity and to carry out some tasks around the club grounds/clubhouse.
Condolences
ARDS Rugby President Stevie Nutt would like to express his condolences, and those of all club members, to Past President John Barclay on the sudden passing of his brother Paul. Funeral details aren’t currently known. The thoughts and prayers of all at Ards Rugby are extended to the whole Barclay family.
