ARDS 7
UNIVERSITY OF GALWAY 0
ARDS made a commanding start to their EYHL2 campaign with an emphatic 7-0 victory over the University of Galway.
The home side set the tone early, dominating possession and tempo from the first whistle. Their pressure paid off in the 11th minute when Susie Cotter opened the scoring, finishing smartly to give Ards a deserved lead. Just three minutes later, Alana Doyle doubled the advantage with a well-taken goal in the 14th minute, before Cotter struck again on the quarter time whistle in a broken down penalty corner to make it 3-0 by the end of the first quarter.
Ards continued to control proceedings after the break. The fourth goal arrived in the 36th minute through Alyssa Boyd, who capitalised on sustained pressure in the attacking circle. Momentum remained firmly with Ards, and Zara Malseed added a fifth just two minutes later after a clever ball was fed through from Alyssa Boyd.
The goals continued into the final quarter, with Emma Reid getting on the scoresheet in the 46th minute following a well taken penalty corner strike. Alyssa Boyd rounded off a dominant team performance by claiming her second goal of the match in the 59th minute.
A disciplined defensive display ensured a clean sheet for Ards, capping off an impressive all-round performance and sending a clear message as they began their EYHL2 season in style.
