LAST Saturday Ards Rugby Club had the pleasure of hosting British and Irish Lion #593 Hugo MacNeill to Hamilton Park to join them in watching the Lions’ victory over the NSW Waratahs.

This weekend sees the Lions take on a combined New Zealand and Australia select (Saturday, 11am) and the match will be shown live on the big screens in the clubhouse.

For the first test match in the series on Saturday, July 19, the club is hosting a breakfast and places are selling fast. The cost is £10 per person and you can reserve your place by contacting lions@ardsrugby.co.uk.

Summer Camps

As part of Ards Rugby’s ROAR outreach programme, the club will again be hosting Mini and Youth rugby summer camps.

The camps aim to develop fitness, teamwork skills and confidence and are designed for boys and girls of all skill levels, focusing on the fundamentals of rugby, including how to pass, catch, ruck and tackle.

The Mini (P1-P7) camp will run from Monday, to Wednesday, August 4 to 6 between 10am and 1pm each day. Applications close at noon on Friday, August 1. The Youth camp (Years 8-14) camp runs from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13 at the same times and applications close at noon on August 8.

Costing £50 for participants, they will include a healthy snack each day and a barbecue on the final day of each camp.

It doesn’t matter who you are, what school you go to, what your rugby experience is or who you play for – just come and play rugby. Sign up today and start your child’s journey to becoming a better rugby player. Registration and payment is via the club Facebook page.

Appeal for coaches and volunteers

With increasing playing numbers, the club’s mini and youth coaches could really do with a hand.

If you’re interested in helping out with mini or youth rugby, get in touch. Whilst rugby or coaching experience is desirable, it’s not essential and if you don’t want to coach the club also requires assistance with other roles such as admin, social media and catering.
