IN what at times seemed like a blast from the past, Carrowdore echoed to the sounds of motorcycles when the Carrowdore 100 Classic and Vintage Show took place in the village.

Twenty five years after the last running of the iconic race, the Presbyterian Church Hall was the venue for the event which was organised by a joint committee from the Ballyblack and Carrowdore Presbyterian churches, with the parade laps controlled by the Vintage Motorcycle Club.

The show was opened by the deputy Mayor Vicky Moore and was attended by a large crowd of spectators. A fantastic assembly of racing motorcycles was on display in the main hall, many of which had competed in races over the Carrowdore course in the past years.

Many famous riders from past years also visited the event including Brian Reid, Roy Reid, Gerry Mateer, Ray McCullough, Con Law, Jackie Hughes, Denis Todd, Trevor Steele, Steven Cull and Leslie McMaster.

In the afternoon a various selection of motorcycles was ridden round the course by guests and a group of riders from the past, for a two-lap celebration of the Carrowdore 100 in the year 2000.

This was enjoyed immensely by the large crowd of spectators who gathered all round the course to view the spectacle. All proceeds from the show were split between three worthy charities – The Air Ambulance, Mental Health Motorbike and the Injured Riders Fund.
