THE centenary committee set up to organise a commemoration of 100 years since the first Carrowdore 100 Road Race took place in the village in 1927 will be staging a film show on Friday, April 17, at 8pm.

The venue is Carrowdore Presbyterian Church hall and a subscription of £10 per person, including refreshments, is payable on admission.

The feature film is titled ‘The Last Lap’ , a documentary film which reflects on Brian Steenson’s short life from his primary school days in Killyleagh through his time at Down High School to reading engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.

Highlights from his motorcycle racing career are woven through his personal life including his long association with childhood sweetheart Irene who he first met at Down High when she was only 15 years-old.

The programme is illustrated with many unseen pictures, archive film, dramatic re-enactments, memorabilia and cartoons covering his races and life outside the track.

The narrator is Stephen Watson (BBC Sport), director Colin James and producer Rowland White.

A supporting programme will include a short film of the Carrowdore 100 show and Vintage Motor Cycle Club Circuit Run held in 2025 together with historic footage of the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix and a trailer for the new Carrowdore 100 Centenary Film due for release in September 2027.
