Could nappies be recycled into road repair product?

Council to explore issue in bid to improve recycling

 

RECYCLING disposable nappies and using the end product to resurface roads is to be explored by Ards and North Down Council.

The local authority is also hoping to secure the backing of other councils across Northern Ireland to back this concept and persuade Andrew Muir, the Minister of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) to facilitate its use across Northern Ireland.

Raising the issue at a recent meeting of the council’s Environment Committee, Alderman Stephen McIlveen said the collection and disposal of nappies and absorbent hygiene waste had been ‘a bugbear of mine’ over the last few years.
