County Down Sides Shine in Group Stage Performances
County Down’s Premier squad have cruised through the group stage with a flawless record, topping Group A after three consecutive victories.
Their campaign began with a high-scoring 4-2 win over Intercontinental FA from New England, showcasing their attacking intent early on. They followed that up with a clinical 3-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion, putting in a dominant display at both ends of the pitch.
In their final group fixture on Wednesday evening, Down faced off against fellow Northern Irish outfit County Armagh. In a tightly contested affair, the Premier side edged out a 2-1 win to seal their third victory in as many games and progress to the knockout rounds with maximum points.
Meanwhile, County Down’s Junior squad have responded impressively after a challenging start to their campaign.
They opened with a 2-0 defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday, but bounced back the following day with a composed 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle. That momentum continued into Wednesday’s fixture, where they put in a determined performance to claim a 2-1 victory against West Ham United, capping off a strong group stage turnaround.
Both squads will now look to carry their winning form into the knockout stages as the tournament heats up.
