SO FAR, so good will be the feeling among the County Down camp at this year’s SuperCupNI.
It’s after both the Premier and Junior sides emerged unbeaten from each of their opening two games at the prestigious youth tournament on the north coast.
In their first Group C fixture on Monday, Co Down’s Premier squad cruised to an 8-0 victory over West Cork at the Coleraine Showgrounds where skipper Jack Faloona from Newtownards, Dundonald duo Cal Weatherup and Oliver Peoples and Donaghadee’s Stephen Kelly (2) were all on target.
The Premier side followed up that opening win with a 3-0 victory against Barca Academy in Bushmills on Tuesday, with Faloona and Weatherup among the goals again after Shay Reid had opened the scoring.
Also enjoying a winning start to the competition on Monday were Down’s junior squad. Three first-half goals did the damage as they saw off Co Armagh 3-1 at Anderson Park in their Group B opener, before Corey McBride and Mason Ayre ensured it would be two wins from two thanks to a 2-0 victory against Charlton Athletic in Portrush on Tuesday.
The Juniors were back in action on Wednesday with a clash against Celtic with Down’s Premier side facing Toluca on matchday three, both of those results not known at the time of going to press.
