Steel & Sons Cup

Colin Valley 1 Comber 2

COMBER got off to a winning start in the first round of the Steel and Sons Cup on Saturday with a 2-1 victory away to Colin Valley.

Manager McKeown has been unfortunate with injuries, suspensions and work commitments but the team was able to secure a victory on Saturday to see the club into the next round.

Comber almost got off to the perfect start when Trainor just failed to connect with a header at the back post.  The home side were depending on quick break aways but Corrie Pollock was putting in a sound performance in the Rec goal.

Comber took the lead in the 43rd minute when Reece Whittle headed the ball home.

The Rec got of to the perfect start in the second half when, in the 50th minute, Ciaran Gillan headed home from a Harry Grierson corner.

Then a good pass from Mark Trainor found Dylan Davidson who saw his shot crash against the crossbar.  The home team had nothing to lose and started to put pressure on the Rec and poor play by Comber let the home team back into it when the number nine made no mistake from the edge of the box.

Comber were now under pressure but were able to hold out to the final whistle

The man of the match was Brandon Nelson.
