DIRECTOR SAYS GENUINE USE OF HRC’S IS PERMITTED

Clarification

In last week’s edition we reported on the ongoing debate into the new online booking system for the borough’s household recycling centres.

In our coverage we stated that Newtownards Alderman Stephen McIlveen had said, at a previous meeting, that householders were being refused permission to book a slot at an HRC if they had clocked up 12 visits, giving the impression that people were being banned outright from visiting HRCs.

However, Mr McIlveen had actually stated that householders were being prevented from booking a slot online and were then forced to telephone the council to seek a slot, which was a huge inconvenience to them. At no time did Mr McIlveen suggest that people were being completely barred from visiting HRCs.
