THE Ulster Hospital has said farewell to a well-respected nurse, who finishes her ‘distinguished and impactful’ career after 40 years.
Linda Gibson, the South Eastern Trust lead nurse for anaesthetics, theatres and ICU, has retired following a long career spanning four decades of commitment, compassion and leadership.
Linda’s nursing journey began in October 1985 when she started her nurse training. She took up her first staff nurse post in Ards Hospital theatres in February 1989, where her clinical foundations were made in the demanding, high-pressure environment of theatre and anaesthetic nursing.
In September 1992, Linda joined the Ulster Hospital, bringing with her a calm authority, clinical confidence and the theatre-honed instincts that would make her such a steady and trusted presence throughout her career.
Linda was appointed theatre coordinator in 2012, a role she embraced with her trademark calmness, organisation and decisiveness. Known for her ability to bring clarity and direction even on the busiest of days, she became a central figure within the theatre environment.
In April 2020, during the Covid crisis, Linda stepped into the role of lead nurse for anaesthetics, theatres and ICU.
Thanking Linda for her many years of dedication, the assistant director of theatres, anaesthetics and ICU, Jeni Hamilton said: “I would like to thank Linda for her outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to operating theatres and critical care services across the Trust.
“Linda has been a constant source of support, guidance and reassurance to her colleagues, particularly during the most challenging times for our services.
“Linda’s professionalism, kindness and commitment to excellence have made a lasting difference to both staff and patients. She will be greatly missed and we wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.”
