BELFAST and County Down Railway Company, which went out of business in 1948, is being given a new lease of life with an exhibition planned for July in Donaghadee.
The company, which is now a not-for-profit company and a registered educational charity, will host the display in Donaghadee Community Centre on July 3, 4 and 5.
In addition to Belfast and County Down Railway Company (BCDR) memorabilia, it will feature Gordon Hunt’s working model of Donaghadee Station and Pier, and Gordon will speak about the history of the railway and the building of his model.

Anyone interested is invited to go to the website www.BCDRailway.co.uk and complete an ‘interest’ form. They will then be contacted with the details when they are finalised. The exhibition will be advertised in the media nearer the time.
Steve Rafferty, the chair of the company, said: “There is still a great deal of interest in the historic railway, and we would like to find a way of bringing together some of the artefacts and memorabilia that exist in many quarters into a Centre where visitors can learn about the history of the BCDR, which for 100 years was so important in the life of County Down.

“Our website www.BCDRailway.co.u k will tell people how they can register an interest and be put on our mailing list. We are also approaching various organisations operating in the same field that might wish to work with us.
“We shall need the help of volunteers for the exhibition, and anyone willing to help should please contact us. We would also be interested in hearing from anyone in possession of BCDR artefacts, models or memorabilia that might in due course find a home with the company: there is a contact form on the website that can be used for that purpose.”
