THERE was a warm welcome at Donaghadee Golf Club last Thursday evening as the cast and crew of the hit BBC TV drama Hope Street joined members and visitors for a fun-filled 13-hole Stableford competition, kicked off with a shotgun start.
It wasn’t quite the usual lights, camera, action for the team – this time the spotlight was on 80 golfers of all ages and abilities enjoying great company, competitive spirit, and fantastic fun on the fairways.
Now in its second year, the open competition saw players vying for silverware awarded to the top female and top male golfers, along with a range of other exciting prizes.
Club captain Robert Henderson said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the cast and crew of Hope Street for their involvement with this event, which is all about bringing people together for a great game and a bit of good craic. With the Hope Street actors involved, we always know to expect a few fun surprises.”
Lady Captain Carolyn Minnis added: “It’s not every day you get to play alongside familiar faces from the screen. Whether you’re a golf fan, a TV buff, or just love a good time, this event brings together sport, entertainment, and community in the best possible way.”
Speaking on behalf of Long Story TV, the production company behind Hope Street, Leon Coole said: “We are pleased to be back in Donaghadee again this year filming the fifth series of Hope Street. Over the past few years we have been made so welcome by the local community and we are delighted to be able to take part in this competition once again.”
After the final putts dropped, the celebrations continued in the clubhouse with a delicious meal, plenty of laughter, and a toast to a memorable evening with the stars.
