Killyleagh journalist Chris Hagan had a once-in-a-lifetime experience this week as he met King Charles III and Queen Camilla at a special Buckingham Palace reception honoring the UK regional media.
Chris, who serves as News Editor for UTV, attended the prestigious event on Wednesday night, where he had the chance to personally chat with the King and Queen about their recent three-day visit to Northern Ireland.
A Royal Conversation
During their exchange, King Charles reflected on his warm welcome in Belfast, sharing how much he enjoyed the hospitality and even the tipple of Bushmills whiskey he was offered during his stay.
“The King said he had enjoyed the hospitality he had been shown in Belfast and seemed to have enjoyed the tipple of Bush whiskey he had been given,” said Chris.
However, Chris was taken aback to learn that just a day later, King Charles was admitted to hospital due to side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.
“I was shocked to learn he had been admitted to hospital the next day suffering side effects from his cancer treatment,” he added.
A Historic Gathering at the Palace
The reception at Buckingham Palace was part of the Royal Family’s ongoing efforts to engage with regional media and recognize the importance of local journalism in communities across the UK.
Chris’s meeting with the King and Queen marks a proud moment for Northern Ireland journalism, highlighting the close connection between the Royal Family and the people of the region.
