BALLYNAHINCH rider Korie McGreevy stole the show with no fewer than nine wins across round five of the Ulster Superbike Championship at Kirkistown Race Circuit.
Northern Irish weather threatened to hamper racing on both Friday and Saturday at the Temple Motorcycle Club meeting, but yet the teams and riders took to the track on time and without setback, as Friday saw a full day of 18 races set off as scheduled, with a further 19 races on Saturday.
Spectators were privy to two of the best days of short-circuit racing this season has had to offer as McAdoo Racing Team’s Korie McGreevy offered up thrills and a spill and still walked away with nine wins in Superbike and Supersport races.
There is no doubt that in the Superbike class, Korie was challenged by Magic Bullet riders Jonny Campbell and Ross Irwin as well as Banbridge’s Ryan Gibson and JMcC Roofing pair Dean McMaster and Andy Reid, but McGreevy held them off at every turn. Alan Kenny and Aaron McBride complete
the list of front-runners in Superbike to date.
Race one on Friday saw Campbell and Gibson battle it out with McGreevy and the second race followed a similar format, with race three introducing Ross Irwin to the mix. Jonny Campbell continues to lead the Superbike category with 217 points across the five rounds, with Ryan Gibson in 2nd place on 193 points and Korie McGreevy climbing the ranks into a secure 3rd with 142.
McGreevy is currently enjoying dominance in the Supersport Championship, though Macclesfield-born Christian Elkin is hot on his heels, with Belfast rider Mark Conlin a close 3rd. Magic Bullet’s Jonny Campbell and MPW Kawasaki’s Andrew Smyth are not to be excluded from the Supersport rankings.
As for the Supersport Cup, Alistair Jackson holds the lead by 24 points over Tandragee rider James Doy, with Ross Moore a very close 3rd. There are only four points between Moore and Doy at this stage which suggests everything could change in round six.
After two days’ racing at Kirkistown, Superbike Cup has young Belfast rider, Rossi Dobson, dominating with 235 points. Mark Hewitt is in 2nd on 163 and Cookstown’s Jordan Mccord sits in 3rd with 99 points.
The sidecar class sees Fergus Woodlock and Luke Galligan leading the championship, with Ryan Dineen and Harry McAleese in 2nd. Declan and Karl Brady hang on to 3rd position with 50 points to date. In the Classic bikes category, Ian Thompson has a strong overall lead in the 1000cc class and Sean Leonard holds on to 1st place in the 500cc class.
Christian Elkin dominates the Supertwin class, with McGreevy on his tail this time in 2nd. The Production Twin sees John Martin hold a 67-point lead over Lewis Grove.
Pre-injection 600 is led by Steven Love over Michael Carr, with very little between the two. The 300 class of Supersport sees Ballyclare rider Ruben Sherman-Boyd hold the lead at the close of round five.
Moto 3 is currently led by Alexander Rowan, who is a country mile ahead with a 135-point
lead at this stage. In the lightweight Supersport class, Graham McAleese is the man to beat. He sits comfortably on 261 points, with Mark Allen in 2nd with 155.
Moto one has Kilrea’s Isaac Mark, Wexford’s Joey Hennessy and Hubert Tomaszewski battling it out
for pole position.
With five rounds left in the championship, 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting season of highly competitive racing. Organisers Temple Motorcycle and Athletic Club and Motorsports Enterprises could not have been happier with the turnout of teams, riders, spectators, and supporters for their first collaboration in a two-day race event at Kirkistown and extend thanks to all those who have taken part.
The Temple Club also wish to thank Clerk of the Course, Chris Crowe, as well as volunteer marshals, scrutineers, officials, stewards and medics.
