NAFL PREMIER DIVISION
ARDS RANGERS 1
DERRIAGHY CC 2
A LAST-GASP goal saw Premier Division frontrunners Derriaghy emerge from Drome Park with three points on Saturday.
With the locals looking to build on their win over second placed Lisburn Rangers last time out, the first half was fairly even and looked to be heading to a scoreless end until Nick Beta put the away side ahead with 39 minutes on the clock. However, fresh from hitting a hat-trick last week, Alex McIlmail got the equaliser for Rangers two minutes before the break to leave it at 1-1.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first but it was Derriaghy who began to get on top with injuries forcing the home team to introduce all three substitutes. Rangers’ problems were compounded when they were reduced to 10 men five minutes from time with Luke Adair receiving a red card.
It looked like they would hold out for a point, only for the visitors to notch the winner in the last of five additional minutes. After being awarded a contentious corner, a goalmouth scramble resulted in Ben Hamill getting the telling touch and there was barely time for the locals to centre the ball before the referee blew the whistle for full-time.
