NEWTOWNARDS’ Harry O’Hara has accepted a golf scholarship for 2027 from Kent State University in Ohio, USA.
Seventeen-year-old Harry, whose golfing journey began when a neighbour gifted him a set of plastic golf clubs at the age of two, currently plays off a handicap of three and is Ireland’s fourth-best ranked U-18 golfer.
Initially attending Regent House, the Clandeboye Golf Club member and his older sister, Molly, made the move to Rockpoint School, near Holywood, the only school golf academy in Ireland.
Already selected as a member of Rockpoint’s elite squad, Harry began playing for Ireland at U-16 level, in 2023, while his trophy cabinet features national titles.
The US college scholarship is his latest achievement, and Ohio could be the perfect place for him to take his career to the next level.
Kent State has produced a host of PGA Tour players over the years, including two-time Valero Texas Open champion Corey Conners and, most notably, 2003 Open Championship winner Ben Curtis.
