AN 80 YEAR-old Moneyreagh woman who recently launched herself out of a plane for charity has taken part in a new charity project to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI.

Self-confessed adrenaline junkie Margaret Kerr is one of the 12 local ladies who feature on a new calendar which aims to raise money for the key local charity.

The concept was the brainchild of Margaret and her friend Lynn Walsh and the result is a calendar entitled Girls on the Move which is now on sale. It is the second ‘Calendar Girls’ production Margaret has been involved in following a previous calendar in 2019 which raised money for Alzheimer’s Research.

The idea for a new calendar came to Margaret during a meeting in Coleraine organised by Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI.

“They had got a new ambassador and I was invited along for morning coffee,” said Margaret. “I don’t know what happened, but when Lynn and I came out, we had decided, we’re going to do a calendar – and there was no drink involved.

“Then, just over two months later, it was in the printers.” Margaret said the calendar she was featured in in 2009 was called Bring On The Girls but they wanted this calendar to be focused around movement and transport and came up with some brilliant concepts for each featured month.

Margaret said: “I got 10 others to sign up with Lynn and myself. I told them here’s what we’re doing and we got some brilliant shots. “We have one of a steam train, a helicopter, a long-distance lorry, a fire engine, my one is on a Russian tank.

“We also have a pony and trap, a motorbike, a boat, a DeLorean car and a witch on a broomstick. Christmas is also a special one, with a sled featuring real life reindeers too.”

Margaret said she and Lynn got several other family members involved in the project but warned her niece’s partners that it would be the boys’ turn next year.

“As for future plans, well, I believe I’ll leave things until after Christmas, but I did say to some of the girls who brought their boyfriends around, next year is boys’ night and I’ll make sure they’ll be there for it.”

Margaret also extended thanks to the companies and people who helped out with the project including the photographer, Willoughby Bespoke Protection, Gilmore Funeral Directors Ltd, R Savage & Co Ltd, Mar-Train Heavy Haulage Ltd, Martin Phillips Carpets, Echlinville Distilleries, DSJ Interiors NI, Braeside Nursery, Temple Golf Club, Carl Elliott LTD, Quoile Fuels LTD and Toye Vehicle Repairs.
