LAST weekend, a Newtownards couple returned to the venue where they held their wedding reception for a surprise celebration for their 50th anniversary.
Heather (née Burns) and Martin Murdock, were married in St Mark’s Church, Newtownards, on September 24, 1976, having met in 1972 in the Town ‘n’ Country Hotel (famously known as the TnC) in the town.
The wedding reception was held in La Mon House Hotel, and 50 years later, their family surprised them with a celebratory weekend to mark their golden anniversary.
The honeymoon was spent in Toronto, Canada, where Martin’s family had emigrated.
The couple went on to have a son, Garreth, who is married to Kerrie, and Michelle, whose husband is Mark.
Heather and Martin are proud grandparents of Travis, Ben, Emily (Garreth’s children), and Carson, Megan and Charlie (Michelle’s children).
The family describes the much-loved couple as ‘an example to us all’.
