A NEW book detailing every player to have represented Ards Football Club over an 100-season period is set to go on sale.
‘The Newtown’ Aces’ is the work of programme editor Adrian Monaghan and lists some 1,684 players who have worn the red and blue from the 1923/24 season through to 2022/23 in an A-Z directory style with each player’s appearances and goals listed as well as their debut game and a list of other clubs that they appeared for.
The idea for the book was hatched around 2020 and Adrian has been steadily working away at it over the intervening years.
There are over 70 in-depth profiles of players such as club legends like Billy Humphries, Ray Mowat, Billy Nixon, Billy McAvoy, Mick Lynch, Marty McCann, Paul Kee, Craig McMillen and Darren Erskine. The publication is also filled with hundreds of photographs and a season by season statistical record.
A launch event for ‘The Newtown’ Aces’ was held at the Ards FC Sports Club on Wednesday evening (October 22).
