New dry eye treatments at Specsavers Newtownards

Your local experts at Specsavers Newtownards have invested in the latest treatment to help customers who are experiencing discomfort in their eyes, from grittiness to itchiness, burning or watery sensations.

The store, based on Conway Square, is now offering Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment, and Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) using state-of-the-art clinical equipment that treats the cause of Dry Eye Syndrome, with symptoms including discomfort, gritty or itchy feelings, burning or sore sensations, watery eyes or eye twitching in some cases.

During IPL treatment, pulses of light are delivered to heat the skin around the meibomian glands in the eyelid to melt and free-up any blockages, while LLL Therapy uses low-level red light to stimulate activity and improve function of those glands, enhancing tear production and quality.

Retail Director Nikki Gardiner commented; “Dry Eye Syndrome happens when your eyes stop making tears as they usually would. Tears are an important part of our eye health as they help to keep our eyes moisturised, protecting them against infections, clearing away any debris from the surface of our eyes to keep our vision clear.

“As a local healthcare provider, we want to ensure we are continuing to provide treatments that are easily accessible for our local customers. Specsavers should be your first stop when it comes to any minor eye condition, and with this new clinical equipment we are able to help with more complaints, including dry, gritty, sore and watery eyes, which also means avoiding lengthy GP appointment queues.”

A course of four treatments is initially recommended, at weekly intervals. Positive effects are usually noted from the third treatment, and a single maintenance application is recommended every 6-12 months.
