New Year’s Day baby for Ards couple

A NEWTOWNARDS couple welcomed a new arrival into the world on New Year’s Day.

Baby Ezra was born to Katie McCartney and Aaron Aston at just 32 minutes past midnight at the Ulster Maternity Hospital, making him among the first of the new Generation Beta to be born in Northern Ireland. He weighed nine pounds.

Katie recalls how her new son was actually meant to come into the world on December 29, but decided to hold off for a special birthday in the new year.

He was another surprise for his parents who were not sure whether they were having a boy or a girl.

Said the mother of three: “I didn’t expect to have him on New Year’s Day, he was a bit overdue, only a few days late. I thought he would have come a bit earlier, he is my third child. But no, he waited.

“It will be a special birthday for him, since it is on New Year’s Day.”

The local mother also divulged the reason for choosing the name for her new son.

“We quite liked the biblical route with Ezra, it meant ‘helper’, we liked the meaning we thought it would have been nice.

“We are feeling very happy, and excited to get home.”
