A GOAL in each half saw North Down edge out Blackstaff to claim the Billy Allen Memorial Shield in the final on Easter Monday at Parkway, Comber.
Philip Hannah broke the deadlock for the Newtownards club on the stroke of half-time when he prodded home the opener after Daniel Orr’s initial effort had been saved by Blackstaff ’keeper Colin Kinghan.
Bailey Millar rose highest to head home North Down’s second goal from a long-throw in the 73rd minute, with Blackstaff captain William Conville halving the deficit eight minutes later with a headed finish of his own. That signalled the end of the scoring though, as North Down held out for what they hope will be the first part of a season double.
