IT’S the end of an era for the Ulster Hospital as dedicated porter, Ian Patterson, retires after over 40 years in the health service.
The Newtownards man is now entering a new chapter of his life, this time in retirement, having dedicated 42 years of his life to portering in the hospital’s emergency department.
Praised for his warm demeanour and unwavering commitment to his role, Ian played an integral role in the smooth running of the department. Earning respect throughout his career as a porter, Ian offered comfort to countless individuals in their most vulnerable moments.
Noting he will miss working alongside his longtime colleagues, he is now looking forward to the newest chapter in his life.
Said the Newtownards man: “I have had the pleasure of working alongside many great colleagues and friends who I will miss greatly.
“I am looking forward to my retirement and the next chapter. I would like to thank everyone that has been part of my journey over the years for the support they have given me.”
Wishing Ian well on his retirement assistant Director of Patient Experience, Jeff Thompson, thanked him for his service.
“Ian will be missed greatly, not only by staff in the Emergency Department, but across many departments in the Ulster Hospital,” he said.
