KILLYLEAGH YC manager Stephen Lindsay has described new signing Jack Sharvin as being the best player in the Amateur League.
Sharvin has re-signed for his hometown club after spending four seasons with Premier Division side Drumaness Mills.
The 26-year-old striker has served as the focal point of the Meadowvale club’s attack, forming a partnership with fellow striker Callum Dougan, scoring 106 goals in 138 appearances across all competitions and representing the Amateur League select team.
His previous stint with Killyleagh saw him lead the line in promotion to the Premier Division, playing alongside older brothers Jonathan and Jamie, under the management of dad Paul.
Sharvin makes his return to the Showgrounds, aiming to restore
some of the glory the YC had become accustomed to in the past, with the club currently playing in Division 1B.
The Whites, winners of eight Amateur League top flight titles, four Border Cups, three Clarence Cups and one Steel & Sons Cup, have experienced a downward spiral in recent years, suffering back-to- back relegations in 2023/24 and 2024/25.
However, manager Lindsay has now steadied the ship, steering his side to a fifth-place finish in 1B last term, eight points away from promotion, and with a player of Sharvin’s pedigree added to the ranks, a return to 1A could be on the cards in the near future.
The first signing of the summer represents a coup for the sleeping giants, prising a key player away from a side that sits two leagues above them, and they are overjoyed to welcome the return of their former talisman.
In a club statement, Killyleagh YC said: “We are pleased to announce our first summer signing of the season as Jack Sharvin signs from Drumaness Mills.
“Jack’s name in the Amateur League needs no introduction, and everyone involved at the football club is delighted to welcome Jack back to his hometown club.
“From representing the Amateur League select team, scoring a plethora of goals for Drumaness over the past number of seasons, as well as bringing a wealth of football experience, Jack is the profile of player that can help drive the football club forward.
“Everyone at Killyleagh YC would like to welcome Jack to the club and look forward to seeing him in action with his teammates in pre-season.”
Additional acquisitions are to be expected for the ambitious management team, but for now, Lindsay is pleased to have got his man.
“To get a player of Jack’s quality shows our intention for the season ahead. When I spoke to Jack, he instantly liked the project ahead and bought into it straight away,” he said.
“In my opinion, he is the best player in the Amateur League and we are over the moon to have him back playing for his hometown club.”
