NEWTOWNARDS Sailing Club siblings Adam and Emily Torrens became back-to-back winners of the GP14 Irish Youth Championship at Sligo Yacht Club last weekend.
Sailing Kokomo, the pair scored a first and second to take the championship title, three points clear of the host club’s David Evans and William Draper in Red Boat.
Joris Rooney and Ossian Geraghty, also of Sligo Yacht Club, completed the podium in The White Rabbit.
A total of 20 boats took part in this year’s championship, highlighting the strength of the youth fleet in the GP14 class in Ireland.
Racing was abandoned on Saturday, shortly after the boats launched, with winds gusting over 30mph, but Sunday’s action was completed, despite competitors racing in a challenging, shifting breeze.
