School’s anniversary celebrations continue with blast from the past

BROOKLANDS Primary School in Dundonald continued its 40th anniversary celebrations with a special Back to the Future themed party, complete with lots of time-warping surprises for staff and pupils.

The event, which took place on Friday, acted as a continuation of the school’s year-long celebrations. To date, Brooklands has hosted several themed days, including an 80s party, a VE Day prom in the playground and a community music and memory event to connect the past to the present, and look towards the future.

On the day, pupils ditched their uniform to dress up as figures from the past and the future, with a vintage DeLorean making a special appearance for both the staff and children to live out their ultimate Marty McFly fantasies.

Teachers also embraced the theme in their lessons, linking it to topics including literacy, science, history and maths.

Fiona Smart, principal of Brooklands Primary School, said of the day: “We loved every moment of our Back to The Future day, another of our special events to celebrate 40 years of Brooklands Primary School, and 40 years since this iconic film hit the screens too.

“The children and staff of Brooklands excelled themselves with outfits from the past, present and future, looking incredible as they lined the playground in anticipation of our mystery guest – no one could believe it when the DeLorean wheeled into our playground, doors up and with The Doc at the wheel!”.
