BRITISH Superbike star Glenn Irwin was a surprise entry as the Irish Mini Bikes organisers staged an end-of-season race meeting at Bishopscourt on Saturday.
The decorated rider, who this month announced his retirement from road racing to focus his efforts on the British Superbike Championship, was a double winner around the Downpatrick circuit which also saw Irwin’s son, Freddie, taking part.
The Dualways Bam Bam races saw two competitors claim their first ever wins as Casey Hogg Rogan and Jake Todd shared the honours. William Graham won both the Road Racing Ireland Junior Gearbox races while Buster Sherman Boyd took both the Crossan Motorcycles Junior Elite races. Sherman Boyd was also winner of the two stroke section with Fionn Stephens winning the four stroke class.
Stephens followed that up with two wins in the Neil Robinson Memorial Junior Mini GP class. The TAG Racing IRL Stock B races were both won by Michael Gillian. Irwin took the two EICL Stock A races, Kelan Smith was the Vetran’s winner and the Senior Mini GP race was won by Brian McGough.
Ruben Sherman Boyd won both Athboy Karting Open races.
At the end of the meeting all competitors received a medal for taking part. Glenn Irwin thanked the club for putting on a great day’s entertainment and praised the junior riders for their efforts, telling them all to ‘keep at it’.
