THE manner of Tuesday evening’s performance was particularly pleasing for Ards manager Matthew Tipton.
His side responded to a heavy defeat at the hands of Loughgall by seeing off second placed Warrenpoint Town thanks to a first-half Adam Salley strike, and it was just the sort of reaction a buoyant Tipton had hoped for.
“I thought the boys were brilliant,” he remarked. “We were decimated with illness, injuries and other stuff and we tried a system which the boys haven’t worked on for three or four months, but I thought they played it to perfection.
“Alex Moore made a couple of really good saves early in the first half but other than that I thought we contained Warrenpoint and full credit goes to the boys for producing a really good performance.
“We stood up to the task as a back three and the midfield in front of them was super, and Conor Scannell on his first start showed glimpses of what we know he can do,” continued Tipton.
“We wanted to try and get five wins from the last five games. Saturday has been and passed, but we’ll go to Annagh now on Friday looking to follow this result up.
“It’s really pleasing because this was our last home game and after the disappointment of the weekend, it was important we showed some character.”
