MOTORSPORT fans are in for a treat this Saturday, September 27, as Kirkistown Racing Circuit hosts its final car and Superkart meeting of the 2025 season.
With packed grids, championship deciders and two prestigious trophies up for grabs, the stage is set for a thrilling day of racing.
The coveted Martin Donnelly Trophy will go to the winner of the second Formula Ford 1600 (FF1600) race, while the Emerson Fittipaldi Trophy will be awarded to the victor in the second Formula Vee contest. The FF1600 field is the biggest in Ireland this year, boasting 19 entries. Previous winners such as Niall Murray, Noel Robinson, Jordan Dempsey and Jason Smyth face strong competition from Ronan Doherty, Jordan Kelly, and a host of seasoned campaigners.
Although Doherty has already clinched the 2025 FF1600 title, the battle for the C Class crown remains intense between Philip Harris and Henry Campbell.
Formula Vee sees 16 entrants, slightly down due to recent attrition, but still fiercely competitive. Expect fireworks from Conor Melia, Kieran Hannan, Eamonn Thornton and Gavin Buckley, with tyre prizes on offer courtesy of Bill Adair Competition Tyres.
The Fiesta and Mini Cooper races are combined, with titles already sealed by Aidan Mulready and Taylor Frizzell respectively. However, close racing is still expected from a strong mid-field including Grace McCallion, Stephen Walker and Michael Mulholland in the Fiestas, and the Stewart brothers, Ryan Hogg and John Newport in the Minis.
In Roadsports and Global GT Lights, the championship remains on a knife-edge. Mike Ward leads Jim Larkham by 14 points, but with 44 still up for grabs and bonus points for pole and fastest laps, anything can happen. The Global GT Lights field includes strong contenders like Ethan Campbell and Roisín Sweeney.
In Libre Saloons, title leader Patrick Corbett is yet to enter, giving Gavin Kilkey a golden opportunity. Meanwhile, the GT class sees Alexander Preston, Matthew McCord and Barney Casement in close contention.
Craig Ewing has already secured the Modi-5-Cup for MX-5s, but second place remains hotly contested by Damian Moran, Francie Allen and Robert McAllister.
The 250cc Superkart class sees unbeaten Aaron Newell headlining, with stiff competition from Liam Fox and others. In the 125cc category, expect tight action among Scott Greenaway, Gavin Dewart and company.
Adding charm to the programme are eight Austin Sevens, including three ‘Chummys’ and five ‘Ulsters’, promising vintage excitement with enthusiastic driving and surprisingly close battles.
The Northern Ireland Mazda MX5 Owners Club will also host a ‘Show ‘N Shine’ display beside the clubhouse.
Admission is £15 at the gate, with free entry for under-16s.
