LOCAL costumed re-enactors Ian and Kathryn Eagleson are preparing to transport visitors back to the American frontier as part of Saintfield’s Fourth of July USA 250 celebration on Saturday, July 4.
Leading a living history encampment in the village’s new Windmill Park, they will recreate life in 18th-century America with traditional cooking, authentic camp life and exciting flintlock firing demonstrations.
The re-enactment is just one of the attractions in a fun-filled day for all the family.
From 10am to 1pm, the village will host a Boston Tea Party, Bluegrass music, children’s stories and crafts, a petting pony, live music and craft demonstrations.
From 2pm, activities move to Saintfield Community Centre and Windmill Park with line dancing, horseshoe throwing, frontier re-enactors, live music from The Muddy Puddle Jumpers, stook making, an American fancy dress competition for primary school children and plenty of food.
The first 250 visitors will each receive a £2.50 voucher to spend at the food stalls.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
The event is organised by Saintfield Community Association and has been funded by the Department for Communities through its USA-NI 250 fund.
