VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATED AT QUEEN’S HALL EVENT

THE contribution of volunteers to society has been celebrated by Ards and North Downh Council.

The mayor, Jennifer Gilmour, hosted volunteers from across the borough for an event at Newtownards’ Queen’s Hall to mark their tireless work with certificates of recognition.

Members of the local community networks were invited by the mayor, who issued a personal thank you on behalf of the countless benafactors across myriad sectors.

Mrs Gilmour, said: “The ‘Celebrating Volunteering’ event provided an opportunity to thank those who selflessly give up their time for the good of their community.

“Volunteers are worth their weight in gold and are vital to the health and wellbeing of the Borough. You can’t buy their level of passion and enthusiasm, and quite often it is the same faces that appear with multiple hats on,” she added.

“Thank you to all those who attended the event as well as many others throughout Ards and North Down.”

In recent years, a number of community groups in Ards and North Down have been recognised with prestigious awards, most recently with Greyabbey and District Community Association receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
